Services Offered at Blake Veterinary Clinic

Vaccines are one of the most effective ways to keep pets healthy. They help the immune system recognize and fight off harmful bacteria and viruses before illness occurs. We tailor each pet’s vaccine plan based on their lifestyle and risk factors.

Parasite prevention is equally important.
Heartworms are a serious threat in our area, spread by mosquitoes, and much safer to prevent than to treat. Preventative care also protects against intestinal worms that can affect both pets and people.
Fleas and ticks pose risks for all pets, indoors or outdoors, and can transmit serious illnesses. With many prevention options available, we help choose the safest and most effective plan for your pet.

If our patients could talk, our jobs would be a lot easier!
Since they can’t, we rely on careful observation by listening to their owners, checking vitals, and performing thorough veterinary exams to learn as much as we can about their health. Often, though, we need extra tools to get the full picture.
By taking and analyzing samples, we can investigate further and narrow down potential causes of illness.
Our in-clinic laboratory allows us to run many tests right on-site, providing fast results when time matters most. We also work closely with trusted outside laboratories for additional testing as needed. These tools help us not only diagnose health concerns but also screen for potential issues during routine preventative care so we can better understand and care for our voiceless patients.

By age three, most dogs and cats show signs of dental disease. If left untreated, advanced dental issues can cause pain, tooth loss, and even affect important internal organs.
We assess your pet’s dental health at every annual exam, and our technicians are available for more detailed dental evaluations as needed. Some pets, like small breeds, older pets, or certain breeds, may require more frequent cleanings or tooth extractions to keep their mouths healthy and comfortable.

X-rays, or radiographs, let us safely and non-invasively see inside your pet, helping detect infections, organ issues, and cancers.
Our digital X-ray system is fast, efficient, and provides clear, detailed images within minutes so we can diagnose and treat your pet more quickly and accurately.

Choosing the right food for your dog or cat can feel overwhelming. With new products and conflicting information everywhere, it’s easy to get confused. Our veterinarians and staff are here to help you navigate the options and find a diet that fits your pet’s needs, your lifestyle, and your budget.

Many pets struggle with weight issues, so we can help create a personalized feeding plan, including calorie counts and weight management strategies. Keeping your pet at a healthy weight not only improves daily comfort but can also add years to their life.

Preventing health problems is often easier, safer, and less stressful than treating them later.
Regular check-ups, whether annually or every six months, allow our veterinarians to catch issues early, before your pet shows any signs.
During these visits, we can evaluate your pet’s overall health, including dental care, weight, joint health, vision, heart function, and much more.
By staying proactive, we can help your pet live a longer, healthier, and happier life.

Our surgical suite provides a clean and calm environment for elective, non-elective, and emergency surgeries during opening hours. From the moment your pet arrives, a surgical technician/assistant and doctor will assess them and strive to make the process as stress-free as possible.
The doctors keep up-to-date on the latest surgical techniques and procedures. We offer many types of surgeries, such as spay/neuter, orthopedic surgeries, tumor removals, foreign body surgeries, cystotomies, pyometra surgeries, among many others. Give us a call to inquire about your pet's surgical needs.

Ultrasounds let us safely and non-invasively see inside your pet, helping detect infections, organ problems, and cancers. They provide a detailed view of internal organs that cannot be achieved through exams alone.

Dr. Richard Blake has advanced training in both echocardiograms and abdominal ultrasound, which are services typically available only at specialty referral centers, bringing this level of care directly to our patients.

Puppies and kittens need extra care to grow strong, stay protected from disease, and thrive in their new homes.

During their visits, we provide a thorough physical exam, booster vaccinations, and testing or treatment for intestinal parasites. We also discuss nutrition, training, behavior, and spay/neuter options—everything you need to help your new companion become a healthy, happy member of your family for life!

As our pets grow older, new challenges can arise—arthritis, digestive changes, organ issues, and more. Senior pets need special attention to maintain the best possible quality of life. From managing arthritis pain to choosing the right diet for an aging digestive system, and performing routine screenings for common conditions, we’re here to help keep your pets comfortable, happy, and healthy for as many years as possible.

When the time comes to make difficult end-of-life decisions, our team strives to provide the most compassionate care. Our Comfort Room offers a quiet, private space for these conversations and moments, giving both pets and families a peaceful environment during times of stress and grief.

We welcome some reptiles and exotic pets at our clinic. Our veterinarians and staff have experience caring for many exotic species, but for more complex cases or specialized procedures, we may refer you to an experienced exotic specialist.

While we are not equipped for extensive surgeries or advanced treatments for these pets, we provide basic exams, husbandry guidance, and routine care.

If you have questions about your exotic companion, please don’t hesitate to call. We’re happy to discuss your pet’s needs and help determine if our clinic is the right fit.
